Savage Port a Stand

It felt like Christmas! My Savage stand came today. No more having people kneel in front of my backgrounds. It came with a roll of white paper, which I'm not exactly loving.

I made Ryan sit in front of it. How do you like his expression? Is it so painful to pose in front of a camera??? LOL! This took maybe 5 seconds...I was metering off his face and he actually said, "Stop!!! You're hurting me." Lord...

I obviously didn't plan this very well because he's wearing a white shirt, which makes pp'ing even more difficult.

But, I got some great advice from my mentoring forum and it's not too horrible.

Aubree and her Momma

This photo shows just how much Aubree adores her Momma. Adores.

And bw conversion

Sarah and Joshy

So...I have a 2 week trial of Portraiture that ends any second, so I'm frantically using it on everything I can think of! I really like this one of Josh and Sarah. They were helping me by posing in front of my black backdrop. I always have to convert to black and white for some reason.

Not my Favorite

There are so many things I don't like about this photo, but I'm still posting it so I can learn and compare it to future attempts at this shot.

Baby was very comfy, but doesn't look like it. LOL! I hope to try this again. It's harder than it looks. It's a balancing act. I also wish he was sound asleep, but hey, that couldn't be helped.

Newborn in a Hat

I just loooove this little stocking hat. Sarah doesn't. Sarah says it reminds her of something from the 60s. That's probably why I love it.

This little guy would look adorable in anything!

More Newborn Baby J.

I'm having a blast editing these! My new favorite thing is black and white. I have quite a few more to do, but no time left today!

I can't wait for another newborn session.

Newborn Session

Little baby J. was so stinking cute! A perfect baby for me to have for my very first newborn session.

Mom and dad were beautiful, too. I so appreciate them welcoming me into their home to practice.

These are a few quick peaks. The editing is very basic. I'm learning that, as well.

An assignment

So, I was lucky enough be taken on by a mentor along with around 20 other photographers. Yay me!

The first assignment is backlighting, so Brandon happily volunteered. He is really being patient with me.

The sky is blown, but I'm going to figure that out.

Working on editing

I'm re-posting this one of Aubree with what I think is better editing, but keeping the original on here so I can chart any progress, however small.

I think this looks better than the first one I did, how 'bout you??

Aubree's Eyes

Just playing around with PS. Anyway, this is my lovely little Aubree...

Brandon let me practice

Brandon and I went to the cemetery down the road to take these. The lighting seems right there.

One thing I'm learning is I can read about photography 24 hours a day, but applying the things I'm learning is unbelievably helpful. I love the side light here, even though his ear seems to be glowing. I'm not sure how to fix that in PS, but it really WAS glowing LOL.

I'm also learning it's much more pleasurable to practice on ONE child than both of them.

Newborn Shoot

My newborn model was born! He's 4 days old and I'm dying to see him. Unfortunately, the momma had a traumatic birth experience, so she's not ready yet. I'm so sorry for her! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she'll start to feel better and let me at him soon. I really want to work with him between 6-14 days old, but we'll see. In the mean time...well, I'm kind of embarrassed, but not really...

This is my grandmother's doll I used to play with when I was little:

Practicing backlighting

I've been scoping out some new spots to take pics. When I'm driving, all I do is dream and imagine what a photo would look like in all the little nooks and cranies along the road...so, on the way to dinner, I convinced Mel and the boys to stop at this little meadow full of flowers. Well, actually, they're weeds. And pickers. Lord.

This was not easy. I was convinced out of the 30 or so snaps I got that none of them worked. But, I was pleasantly surprised with these two. I'm not happy with the focus on their faces, but I'm kind of happy with my second try at catching some nice evening backlight.
